European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
900 jobs to be lost in south Wales as car parts manufacturer Bosch closes its plant at Miskin, near Llantrisant, next year. The manufacturer of car parts has decided to transfer the work to Hungary due to the current economic climate. It has pledged to collaborate with the assembly government to provide training support for the affected staff and to find future alternatives for the site; it had, however, turned down a number of suggestions from the assembly government including developing new product lines and retaining research and development in the country.
David Lewis from union Unite said: "The workers are devastated that Bosch have confirmed they intend to go ahead with the closure. Together with the Labour Government we are doing everything possible to support the workers."
UPDATE 30.6.11
The Miskin site finished production on 28.6.11 with workers working their last shifts on 30.6.11. The remaining 489 staff at the factory had their roles transfered to factories in Hungary.
