Description

Italtel, a European manufacturer of telecommunications networks' technologies, is to cut 400 jobs in its Italian plants. The job-cuts should mainly affect the plants located at Milan, Rome and Carini (in the province of Palermo). This jobs reduction follows the reorganisation plan announced by the company in May 2009, that already envisaged around 400 job cuts. According to the company the current job cuts are due to the drop in orders, mainly from Telecom Italia, which is the main customer of Italtel.

The trade unions reacted to the company decision organising several protests in Milan and Rome. They asked to the government to increase public investments in new telecommunication technologies in order to guarantee the ITC production in the country.

Italtel designs, develops, implements solutions for next generation networks and services based on IP protocol accompanied by a full range of professional services. In Italy, it has around 2,000 employees.
