Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
VSM Group, a manufacturer of advanced sewing machines, will relocate production from Sweden to China and dismiss 150-170 blue-collar workers from its only Swedish plant in Husqvarna by the end of June 2010.
This is due to decreased order intake. The measure will move all production to Shanghai, China. Only product development and marketing will remain in Huskvarna and approximately 60 jobs will remain. The relocation will be realized between April and June in order to strengthen the company's long-term competitiveness. The site had experienced restructuring measures including dismissals in recent years (12269, 6859).
VSM Group owns the trademarks Husqvarna Viking, Pfaff and Singer - all developers and manufacturers of advanced sewing machines for private use. The company has representations in around 40 countries.
