Description
Tyre producer Semperit will close its production facilities in Traiskirchen by the end of 2009 dismissing 195 employees. 165 workers will be laid-off by the end of 2009 and another 30 of the current 195 blue-collar staff will remain in the company until the end of 2010 in order to dismantle and clear the site.
In 2002 the parent company Continental Group had decided to shut down the tyre production at the Traiskirchen plant that has only been engaged in rubber compound operations since then. According to management, a drop in sales of tyres accounts for the closure. About 80 employees in sales and accounting will remain at the site.
