Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 13 October 2009, the pistons and engine block manufacturer Kolbenschmidt Pierburg announced the loss of up to 700 jobs. Almost 150 jobs will be lost due to the closure of the production facility in Hamburg. Another 550 jobs are threatened at its site in Neckarsulm (Baden-Wurttemberg) currently employing some 2,500 people. Employees at the Neckarsulm site were offered to fill other positions at a service company of Kolbenschmidt. The company stated that talks to balance the different interests had already begun.
