Description

Siemens Attica is to lay off 300 employees mainly from the Command & Control Department, as well as from the IT sector Located in Attica.

Siemens, following the closure of its unit in Salonica (autumn 2008) announced Saturday October 10th , 2009 a downsizing in its Attica site involving 300 out of 600 employees as following: 50% of the employees, on the Command and Control Dept., working on projects such as C4I & Hermes (Ministry of Defence) and GSMR (Ergose -a subsidiary of Hellenic Railways Organization). Also, all of the employees in the IT Dept. will be dismissed till 2014 due to the company's decision to terminate its activities in this sector.

According to Siemens Managing Director the layoffs are due to the global economic crisis. The employees association, however, have a different opinion claiming that these are massive redundancies, with the minimum legal compensation and that they refuse to participate in any consultations since the layoffs, the time and the way of retirement have been decided upon already by the Administration.

Siemens is a global network engaged in electronics and electrical engineering. During the fiscal year ended September 30, 2008, the company reorganized its operations. It operates in six segments: Industry, Energy, Healthcare, Siemens IT Solutions, Services and Siemens Financial Services (SFS), and Equity Investments.
