Description
Manroland, the German manufacturer of printing machines, will cut up to 965 jobs in 2009. 515 administrative jobs and up to 450 jobs in manufacturing will be cut this year. The latter will depend on the company's orders. FAZ quotes a works council representative who stated that 520 employees have already left the company in 2009 without direct dismissals. There is no reliable information on Manroland's economic situation. Whereas the works council claims that Manroland is doing well in managing the crisis, FAZ says that the company depends on monthly investments by private equity from Allianz Capital. Allianz Capital Partners, one of the leaders on the European private equity market, holds 65% of Manroland and 12% of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen, another German manufacturer of printing machines (14516). According to FAZ, Allianz pushes for the merger of the two companies, but negotiations failed in October 2009.
