National Grid has announced that it is to transfer 300 jobs to India. A total of 163 jobs are to be cut in the Newcastle office, another 137 jobs will go in Warwick and Northampton. The majority of the job losses will be in finance and human resource roles. The company has announced that all staff facing redundancy will have the opportunity to apply for alternative jobs.
Trade Unions GMB and Unison have criticised the off shoring stating that the company was very profitable. Workers at the plant on Tyneside took part in a 24-hour stoppage over plans to outsource work to India. There are no details of further action.
No details were given about when the transfer of work would take place.
