Description

The French government announced on September 30, 2009 its plans to cut 33749 out of around 1.5 million jobs in the public sector in 2010. This figure includes 16000 jobs among teachers in French secondary schools already announced in June 2009 (see factsheet 13892). The Prime minister has sent a letter to all the ministers.

The trade unions are opposed to this measure which they see as a continuation of a trend towards job reductions in the French public sector.
