Discount retail chain Matalan has started recruitment of an additional 1,800 staff. The firm, which currently has 203 stores, is hiring 1,500 temporary staff for the festive period and 300 permanent staff for its three new locations in Greater Manchester, Morayshire and London. These new stores are planned to be the beginning of a major expansion programme which could see up to 100 extra shops opening in the coming years. No details were given on numbers currently employed by the company or the date by which the new positions are expected to be filled.
