Description
In relation to the decreased financing to the 1st Riga Hospital in an amount of 70 per cent, 570 employees will be dismissed, beginning with the September, 2009. The hopsital's director, Adrejs Pavars, indicated that the hospital will also make cuts to emergency services. As a reuslt of talks between the hospital and the Riga City Council, hospital services will be cut by 2/3. Pavars also reported that the hospital will transition to an outpatient clinic.
In 2005, the European Union provided LVL 284,000 for renovations to the hospital. According to the agreement with the EU, the hospital cannot change its status until September 29, 2011.
