Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Amphenol ConneXus, the Estonian subsidiary of the Swedish company, has announced the reduction of 88 jobs, which represents 16% of the total 537 employees. The dismissals are to take place at the end of July or the beginning of August 2009.
This is the second large dismissal in the company during the year - the first one took place in February when 131 persons were dismissed (see also ERM factsheet). As a result, more than 200 workers have been dismissed from the company during 2009. About 700 workers were employed in the company at its peak. According to the comments of the executive director of the company in the daily newspaper Eesti Päevaleht, the reason lies behind reduction in work orders.
