Description
The German chemical giant BASF has announced 150 job cuts at its factory in Bradford as part of its global restructuring plan, following its takeover of the Swiss group Ciba. It announced that most jobs would be cut by the end of 2010 with the remainder lost by the end of 2013.
BASF employed around 97,000 workers globally at the end of 2008, and warned in April that there were difficult choices to come. The company hopes to save 300 million euros by the end of next year as a result of the restructuring plan. Talks are ongoing with workers' representatives and the company has pledged to make the job cuts in a fair and transparent way.
