Description
TNT, a postal service, has announced that it will scrap 11,000 Dutch jobs by 2012. The announcement came after employees rejected an offer by TNT to guarantee jobs in exchange for lower wages. The company blamed the job losses on increasing competition and a decrease in the amount of paper mail.
The announcement was repeated and made more concrete in July 2010. TNT wants to replace all fulltime mail deliverers by part time personnel. According to TNT, their volume of mail handled has decrerased by 30% since 2000 and by 9% over the past year. Furthermore, they face increasing competition by new entrants on the market.
