Description
The North American multinational Tyco Electronics is a company providing electronic components, network solutions as well as telecoms and wireless systems. This is considered as the largest industrial unit in Alentejo, employing about 1200 workers. The collective redundancy will involve the dismissal of 110 workers. The electrical industry trade union announced that these 110 workers were part of the group of 346 workers who were already on temporary lay-off.
Trade union representatives disagree on this collective dismissal and argue that the company could opt for the alternatives, namely the extension of the lay-off period.
The company justified the dismissal referring to a 50% decrease of the orders.
