Schaeffler, a manufacturer of roller bearings, plain bearings, linear systems and precision components for the automotive industry, is to close its timing chain factory in St. Simeon de Bressieux, near Grenoble with a consequent loss of 195 jobs. The production will be relocated to the facility in Calais. The cuts are blamed on the considerable drop in automotive production in the region. According to the company, redundancy packages for the affected workforce were negotiatied with local trade unions.
