Description

The Austrian-based manufacturer of wood-based materials, Fritz Egger, is to lay off 180 of its currently 5,700 employees throughout Europe. The traditional family enterprise Egger, which is headquartered in St. Johann in Tyrol, is one of Europe's leading producers of wood-based materials, such as wood-based panels and flooring products. The dismissals were announced on 20 February 2009 and justified by dramatically falling demand as a result of the current downturn in the real estate market and the construction industry. The business segments affected comprise both administration and production. Egger runs 16 plants in six European countries.
