Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Merkscha, which manufactures wooden furniture, in Celje, is to lay of 54 employees, having already laid off 58 in 2008. Based in Celje in the Savinjska region, the company is owned by the Austrian parent company Merkscha. Merkscha is engaged in the wood processing industry, and manufactures wooden furniture. It has seen a reduction in orders since the second half of 2008. As a consequence, in 2008, it reduced the number of its employees by 58 and will shortly lay off another 54 employees. Thus, the number of employees will be reduced from 232 to 120.
