Description

Karmann, a leading German manufacturer of convertibles, has announced the retreat from car manufacturing and a major internal restructuring progamme to cope with the lack of orders.  As of May 2009, the Osnabrück plant will be focused on development and roof manufacturing. Car manufacturing will be closed and the machine tool manufacturing division (750 jobs) is planned to be sold in 2009. As a result, 1,390 jobs (out of 3,290) will be cut at Osnabrück which will employ 1,150 after the restructuring.
