Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Manufacturer of air compressors, industrial power tools and construction and mining equipment Atlas Copco has given notice to 44 employees at its factory in Kalmar, as it faces declining demand due to the global financial crisis. Total number of employees in Kalmar before the redundancies was approximately 200.
Atlas Copco also gave notice on 4 December 08 (see separate factsheet Ref. 12898) to 68 employees out of 400 workers at the unit in Tierp and to 13 employees out of a total of 77 at the unit in Ockelbo on 19th January. Furthermore, Atlas Copco Group announced a streamlining initiative on 2nd February 09, which is expected to affect about 3 000 people worldwide in 2009.
