Description

Atlas Copco gave notice to 68 employees in their factory in Tierp, december 4, 2008, as it faces declining demand due to the global financial crisis. February 12, Atlas Copco announced that additional 75 employees in Tierp are to be given notice. These redundancies are part of the savings programme Atlas Copco Group announced February 2, which is expected to affect about 3 000 people worldwide in 2009. Together with the first dismissal this makes a total of 143 redundant employees in their factory in Tierp. Total number of employees in Tierp before the redundancies was approximately 400. The unit in Kalmar gave notice to 44 employees out of a total of 200 workers Januari 27 (see factsheet No 12901), and the unit in Ockelbo gave notice to 13 employees out of a total of 77 workers Januari 19.

The company has 34,000 employees in about 20 countries, with main operations in Sweden, Belgium, China, United States and Germany. Atlas Copco makes air compressors, industrial power tools as well as construction and mining equipment.
