Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Electronic Manufacturing Services company Enics is to close its unit in Varkaus with the loss of 164 jobs by the end of 2009. 141 jobs in production and 23 in administrative and management related functions will be lost. As a consequence of the personnel negotiations the operations will be relocated to other Enics plants in Finland and abroad during 2009.
Enics has around 500 employees in Finland, at locations in Lohja, Vaasa and Varkaus. In addition to Finland, Enics has operations in China, Sweden, Slovakia, Switzerland and Estonia. Overall, Enics has around 2,600 employees.
