Description
The French glass manufacturer Saint Gobain is about to cut 241 jobs at its plants located in Auvelais, Walloon Region. Saint-Gobain Glass and Saint-Gobain Sekurit both employ 882 workers on their site. The management explained its decision by the decrease in demand from two important sectors: the construction and automobile industries. The trade unions remain sceptical about this decision. They believe the management is using the economic crisis to justify the implementation of structural measures. The trade unions announced that they would refuse any direct dismissals but try to obtain other type of job reduction from the management.
