The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Empire direct, an electrical retail business, has made 158 out of its 350 staff redundant. The company went into administration on 19 January 2009 while its 14 UK stores have already shut down. The cuts were blamed on the current economic conditions which had resulted in a significant decline in sales. The remaining employees are assisting the KPMG administrators with outstanding orders.
