Description
The Isle of Wight Council is to cut 205 jobs. The cuts are blamed on the current economic downturn and they were deemed necessary in order to improve efficiency and to avert possible council tax increases. 135 jobs will be lost by the end of 2009 while the remaining 70 jobs will be lost gradually over the next three years.

The Isle of Wight has announced it is to cut 500 jobs after £18m of budget cuts were approved by councillors. The council has approved plans to close 5 libraries and 27public toilets. Initially the council planned to close 9 of the islands libraries but following consultation has decided 4 of these would remain open.
