Description

Schlumberger, a company providing oilfield services, is to cut 5,000 jobs worldwide. The company blamed the cuts on the falling crude prices, the current economic turmoil and the decline in energy consumption. Schlumberger employs 87,000 workers in approximately 80 countries but as of 23 January 2009 there is no information on which countries will be mostly affected or when the job losses will occur. The company is likely to announce further redundancies in the first half of 2009.
