Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Aktiv Kapital, a Norwegian debt collection company, has announced to cut more than 200 jobs worldwide in 2009 as part of a global cost-cutting programme. The objective is to reduce the cost by more than 10%, improve profitability and prepare the company for more financially challenging times. As of January 2009, 32 jobs will be lost in Norway, around 40 in UK and 25 in Denmark.
There is no additional information on other locations affected by the restructuring and the number of job losses in other countries. The company operates in Europe with offices in Austria, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, UK, as well as in Canada.
There is only limited information on the actual implementation of the job losses in the affected countries. In Norway, some of the 32 redundant workers will be offered other positions in other locations.
