Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Anglo-Australian mining company BHP Billiton announced plans to cut 6,000 jobs, or about 6% of its global work force. Jobs will be mainly lost in the company's Australian, Chilean and US operations. A company spokesman referred to the global economic crisis as the principal factor behind the job losses and specifically to the "unwinding of the mining boom" and the "slowing of the economy in China". 2,100 of the job losses in Australia will take place before June 2008.
