Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Arendi, a manufacturer of photovoltaic cells, is to create 150 jobs by the end of 2010 with a new plant located at Lonate Pozzoli, in the province of Varese. The plant will produce high-technology photovoltaic cells, i.e. semiconductor devices for energy by converting sunlight directly into electricity.
Arendi belongs to the Marcegaglia energy that is the business unit of Marcegaglia group dedicated to the energy sector. Marcegaglia is an industrial and financial corporation, one of the worldwide leaders in the steel and metallurgical sector. It also operates in other manufacturing fields and in tourist, financial and environmental services. At the end of 2007, the group had around 6,500 employees.
