Description

Starwood, one of the world's largest hotel and leisure companies, is to cut 650 jobs in Italy. According to the company, the job cuts are mainly due to the global financial crisis. The job losses will affect 417 workers with open-ended contracts and 233 workers with temporary contracts.

The trade unions have reacted to the company's decision by going out on strike for one day.

Starwood has hotels and leisure business worldwide. Its main brands are: Westin, St. Regis, Four Points, Aloft, Sheraton and Le Méridien. In Italy, Starwood has has around 2,200 employees.
