Description
Marks and Spencer, a retailer, is to cut 1,230 jobs across the UK. Twenty-five of its smaller ‘Simply Food’ stores will close, together with two regular stores in Croydon and Woking, with the loss of 780 jobs. 450 jobs will also be cut at the company’s head office in London. The company stated that it was reacting to the difficult retail climate in the UK. The company employs 75,871 people across the UK, although as of 11 January 2009 no announcement has been made as to when these jobs will be cut.
