Description

Semič-based Iskra Kondenzatorji, a company owned by Slovenian Iskra Holding, has announced that it is to cut 720 jobs (out of 800) due to the sharp decrease of orders. The job losses will be implemented by June 2009.

50 of the dismissed workers were employed on a temporary agency contract and another 30 were on fixed-term contracts. The company also reduced the weekly working time from 42 to 36 hours. Lower salaries due to shorter working time will be compensated by a government anti-recession scheme which amounts to EUR 60 per employee on a monthly basis.

Iskra Kondenzatorji operates in the manufacture and development of computers, printers, refrigerators and other household appliances.
