Description
The Police Nationale has announced that it is to cut 4,800 jobs between January 2009 and December 2010. It currently employs more than 143,000 people. Management announced at the same time that it is looking to create 1,400 additional posts in 2009 as 'adjoints de securite', law-and-order personnel generally recruited from the ranks of the long-term unemployed.
It is reported that the job cuts will be achieved through a policy of non-replacement of employees who leave through retirement, transfers. The unions have already protested against this project and are planning to organize a national demonstration on this internal restructuring in Paris in 2009.
