Description
About 150 temporary agency workers of the General Motors Powertrain factory in Vienna were laid off in November 2008. This was reported by the Austrian newspaper Der Standard on 7 January 2009. Moreover, management plans to take recourse to short-time arrangements, affecting 1,540 of the current 1,850 employees from 19 January to 8 May 2009. This is due to persistent disturbances of economic activities in the automotive (supplying) industry. General Motors Powertrain Vienna mainly produces engines and gears for Opel vehicles.
