Description

It has emerged that telecommunications giant, Vodafone, is to make 150 staff redundant due what the company has described as increased competition in the industry. The UK mobile phone multinational employs 1,500 people in Ireland: 1,200 people at its Dublin head office and a further 300 staff in stores across the country. The job losses are part of what the company describes as an organisational review of its operations to enhance competitiveness in “a challenging economic environment.”

Vodafone Ireland says it hopes to achieve the 150 redundancies on a voluntary basis, and it has commenced a consultation process with union and employee representives, which is expected to take about one month. The company has not made a final decision from which sections the redundancies would be sought.
