European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
British Airways, a firm operating in the civil aviation industry, is to cut more than 100 jobs at Gatwick airport. The job cuts reflect BA's response to the worsening economic climate. Although the exact number of job losses is still unknown, the company announced that at least 100 jobs will go, while the cuts will affect ground operations staff. According to the GMB union, the job losses could reach the number of 180. BA committed to put forward a voluntary severance scheme by the end of 2008. As of December 2008, there is no information on exactly when the job losses will be implemented by. However, the company plans to reduce departures at Gatwick airport by 15% by next summer (Summer 2009).
