HSBC, one of Britain's largest banks, has announced that it is to cut 500 jobs across the UK. The jobs will be lost at offices in London , Leeds, Birmingham, Sheffield and Chester, although no retail customer-facing jobs in branches or call centres will be lost.The company employs 330,000 people worldwide, although it is not known how many of these work in the UK. As of 7 December 2008, no information has been given as to when the job cuts will occur.
