Description

Telecom Italia, Italy's leading telecommunications company, is to cut 4,000 jobs. On 3 December 2008, Franco Bernabè, CEO of Telecom Italia, has announced the new reorganisation plan 2009-2011 that envisages a further relevant reduction of the operative costs, with the loss of 4,000 jobs across Italy by 2011. In June 2008, Telecom Italy announced the previous reorganisation plan that envisaged 5,000 job cuts in Italy.

The trade unions reacted to the company’s decision announcing several industrial actions in order to find ways to avoid these further redundancies. In Italy, Telecom has around 64,000 employees.
