Description

Flextronics, which is involved in warehousing and logistics operations for electronic components, is to cut 118 jobs by 25th December at its Raheen plant in Limerick. The company had been seeking 130 redundancies out of the workforce of 290, but following negotiations with the SIPTU trade union, which represents many workers at the plant, this figure was subsequently reduced to 118.

The job cuts at Flextronics will be comprised of 64 compulsory redundancies with the remainder consisting of voluntary redundancies and workers on temporary contracts. The severance package for compulsory redundancies is 6.5 weeks (including 2 weeks statutory entitlement) for every year worked.

The company is quite heavily dependent on business from nearby computer giant Dell.
