Description

French pharmaceuticals giant Sanofi-Aventis has announced plans to reduce its French workforce by 927, including 100 jobs at its French subsidiary and 817 sales rep positions. This project is the second plan in 2008.

At an extraordinary works council meeting yesterday, French pharmaceuticals group Sanofi-Aventis announced plans to axe the jobs of 817 medical visitors in France and 110 employees based at the headquarters of its French unit. The management attributed the decision to a variety of factors, including growing competition from generic drug makers and stiffer advertising regulations. Managers at the group say the change has been made necessary by the increasing use of generic medicines, difficulty in accessing the market and declining medicine prices. They say there is no visibility for the sales representative profession, which is ‘under threat’.
