Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Hydro Aluminium Structures at Raufoss is a part of Norsk Hydro, and produces among other things bumper parts for Audi and BMW. Already in July the company announced downsizing because of lower demand from car manufacturers. On the 30th September the company told the media that 120 of the 600 employees had to leave. Two thirds - around 80 - will receive lay-off notice, and the remainder will be subject to dismissal or early retirement. The exact number of dismissals is still to early to tell. The downsizing has already started, but there are no further indications of a timeframe. The union representatives complained to the media in July that Norsk Hydro were not committed to the production of automotive components, and they feared at least 50 dismissals.
