Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Zirconium, manufacturer of tile and floor accessories, has announced that it is to cut 130 jobs (out of 446) by the end of 2008 at its plant in Villareal (Castellón). The company is negotiating a job reduction plan (Expediente de Regulacion de Empleo in Spanish, ERE) with the unions. The unions demand higher dismissal compensations. According to UGT, Zirconia offers compensation to redundant workers as established by law, namely the recovery of 20 days per year worked up to 12 months.
