Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Stora Enso, a Finnish-Swedish pulp and paper manufacturer, has announced plans for significant staff reduction resulting in 1,700 job losses, including 600 employees in Germany, 550 in Finland, 400 in Russia and 150 in other countries by the end of 2010. About 1,450 employees are planned to be transferred to a new specialised maintenance joint-venture with Swiss-Swedish company ABB in Finland. Stora Enso is operating in more than 40 countries and currently employs 36,000 people.
