Description

Domestic appliance manufacturer Indesit has announced that it is to close its fridge factory in Peterborough by November with the loss of 423 jobs. The company stated that production at the site had proved to be 'unsustainable' despite £8m investment. The company has engaged with trade unions at UK and EU levels and jointly agreed that manufacturing at the site was no longer sustainable as a result in the decline in UK demand for products manufactured on the site and increasing manufacturing costs.

Other jobs at the site will remain unaffected leaving 1,000 people employed in Peterborough in Indesit head office, call centre, service and logistics operation.
