Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The management of Merck Serono, the German pharmaceutical group - specialized in diabetes - has announced that, at it fails to attract any buyer, it will close its plant at Chilly-Mazarin (Essonne) which currently employs 100. As part of its reorganisation plan, the group aims to refocus its activities on other therapeutic domains such as cancer, auto-immun deseases and so on. The closure calls a halt to a wider reorganization of the group initiated a few years ago. Six sites will remain in France, employing about 2,000 workers: Lyon, Monaco, Martillac (Gironde), Calais, Semoy (Loiret) and Meyzieu (Rhône).
