Food processing company Oscar Mayer has announced that it is to cut 250 jobs at its factory in Chard in Somerset. The company intends to reduce its production lines to one. The company said that the move followed an increase in the cost of ingredients and rising energy costs and that the cuts would underpin long term security. The union GMB expressed shock at the redundancies. As of July 2008, there is no information on when the job losses will be implemented by.
