Description

Coldwater Seafood, a firm that processes and supplies seafood, has announced that it is to close its site in Redditch in Worcestershire with the loss of 180 jobs. Production at the Redditch site will be relocated to two sites that the firm operates in Grimsby. The site is due to close by June 6th 2008, and the firm has stated that some employees will be offered the opportunity to relocate to one of the sites in Grimsby. Several employees will be made redundant, however, as of May 2008, it is unclear what the exact number of redundancies will be. The firm has reached an agreement with the trade union Unite on redundancy terms after a period of consultation. The redundancy package was then agreed upon by trade union members within the Redditch workforce by an unanimous majority. A representative from Unite stated:

'It's unfortunate the [site] is closing, but at least we've been able to negotiate a reasonable package linked to the closure.'

Coldwater Seafood employs approximately 1,000 in the UK.
