Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Ericsson, the Swedish-based provider of telecommunication and data communication systems, has announced the loss of 200 jobs in Kumla and the closure of its plant in Sundsvall resulting in the loss of 90 jobs. Although the company expects to complete its restructuring plan by the end of 2008, the last dismissals are likely to be implemented in the first half of 2009. The job cuts are attributed to a drop in revenue growth in 2007 and a need to reduce costs.
