Description

Morrisons, a firm that operates a series of supermarkets across the UK, has announced that it is to create 1,000 new jobs with the development of a new distribution centre in Sittingbourne in Kent. The centre will be located at a new development site and will be used by Morrisons to supply its retail outlets in the South of England. A spokesman for Morrisons has stated that the site was chosen due to its important strategic location. The firm has also announced that the new development will include many measures designed to minimize the environmental impact of the site. As of March 2008, there is no information on when the new jobs will be created by. Morrisons is the fourth largest operator of supermarkets in the UK, and employs approximately 120,000 in the UK. In 2006, Morrisons implemented 1,600 job losses in the UK.
