Description
Eesti Post, the Estonian provider of postal services will close down up to 145 small post offices and dismiss a total of 600 employees all over Estonia due to an internal restructuring.
The Estonian state is the full owner of shares in Estonian Post and the company offers nearly 90 types of services. The reason for the closure of the post offices is said to be the small demand in services in some areas. The employees that are directly affected by the restructuring are mainly middle-level managers, line workers and post sorters.
The problems of Eesti Post are also related to labour force and its quality. There is already an agreement reached that wages of the remaining employees in Eesti Post will increase in April 2008 and the company aims to reach the average wage level of the economic sector by January 2009.
